Bah bah bah bah bah bah bah bah
Pressure,
pressing down on me
Under Pressure
Can you feel it? It’s there; it’s always there, right now, back of your neck, between the eyes, center of the chest, shoulders? Come on admit it, you feel it too.
Before I go on, an announcement:
I am officially on a Quest. I am going to find a song that encapsulates and personifies who we are. Somewhere out there in all the decades since the first record was made is a song that should be the theme song for all entrepreneurs. Especially for those of us in a service business. I have one in mind already but never being one to jump on the first item out of the chute, ( otherwise I would be driving a Yugo) I am going to take my time and go thru volumes of music over the next few months/years? (Sounds like a real hardship doesn’t it?) Until I am absolutely sure that I have found a song that fits us perfectly. In the meantime as I find songs that relate to us I will incorporate them here within my ramblings.
Now back to my latest rant/rave/ (keen insight? LOL)
It is unbelievable the amount of pressure we put on ourselves. We must all be stress junkies. Dealing with pressures such as;
Marketing—adding to your revenue base
Employees—selecting and training new hires
Money management—invoicing, collections, budgeting,
Spouses—wives or hubby’s who want (ok-DEMAND more of your time)
Family---kids, parents, siblings all looking for a piece of you and usually right now
Chippin Around
Kick my brains around on the floor
These are
the days
It never rains, it pours
My advice? Take stress breaks, go bounce a basketball around, go for a walk, go brush the cat or dog. Grab a kid, (make sure you have permission if it’s not your kid) and go play catch. When I was in the corporate world I would stop meetings and ask people to count the tiny holes in the ceiling tiles above their heads. Always thru them for a loop, broke the tension and monotony of the meeting. Stress and pressure are a normal part of our lives, there is no escape, and the idea is to learn to deal with it and to keep it from becoming a focal point in your day.
It’s the terror of knowing
Watching some good
friends
Screaming let me out
You also need to watch for signs of stress in your employees, supervisors and even fellow family members. Recognizing when they are stressed out or feeling the pressure and telling them to take a break or better yet, taking the break with them will help to avoid bigger problems. Plus, your acknowledging that you see the pressure they are under helps to build a good relationship with that person.
Trust me, my telling the wife she looks a little stressed and taking her out for coffee earns me a ton of points!
For people on the edge of the night
Daring you to change your
way
This is our last dance
This is ourselves under
pressure
Right now I am operating under about 12 different deadlines, most of them past due. Sorry C, still working on the stories. But this Friday, I am out of here. Going with the family to pick up another family member. Yes, I could tell college boy to take the bus or train but I think the time with my wife and daughter driving up to get him will be better for all of us. The drive back with the son and daughter controlling the radio, that will be a different matter……………
Under Pressure
